Public organisations operate in complex and uncertain environments. It is increasingly recognised that understanding how complex interdisciplinarity, risks and uncertainties effect public organisations is a key skill for senior public managers. Module four gives apprentices the knowledge and skills to continue their professional development trajectories as senior leaders in complex public environments. It supports their building knowledges about how public organisations deal with risk, complexity, and uncertainty; and introduces them to the tools that managers can utilise to manage these dynamics. It supports their reflective and purposeful self-development of leadership skills and qualities and offers contemporary best practice learning about the adaptive leadership and customer-centred delivery in the public sector. It offers apprentices an opportunity to understand the drivers and mechanisms of public sector organisational change and the strategic leadership skills needed for leadership. It will introduce apprentices to evidence-based public management and teach them the core skills for evidence-based decision making in public leadership under complex cross-disciplinary settings through the Patterns of Systems method.
