Research training

We recognise that to ensure that you can complete your thesis successfully and in good time, it is important that you get good research training.

We are fully committed to research training which is relevant, useful and contributes to positive outcomes for all students, not least in enhancing your career prospects after you complete your thesis. Find out more about skills development.

Some postgraduate research students in the College are expected to audit the equivalent of 60 credits of research training in their first year of study (first two years for part-time students). The precise form of training may vary and each new student will meet with their supervisor to determine their training needs. There are potential exemptions for students who have already undertaken extensive research training, but even in these cases it is important that any needs are met as they arise. Progression on the MPhil/PhD is conditional upon students auditing the required training modules.
