This module is intended for those with no prior knowledge of Arabic literature. It focuses on the Arabic short story, covering its genesis and development with reference to the socio-political context. It explores the major themes and techniques of the Arabic short story and provides you with basic training in literary theory and textual analysis. If you are specialising in Arabic, this is one of the list of core modules that you will normally take.
