This module will build on your existing knowledge of the language of the Qur’an.  The module is not suitable for those without any knowledge of Arabic, the module is designed for students who have done at least a year of Arabic, have a grasp of the basic grammatical structures of modern standard Arabic and are interested in Qur’anic language. You may also have a wish to develop a specialisation in Islamic studies. You will be given the opportunity to diversify your experience and understanding of different uses and modes of written Arabic. You will read excerpts from the Qur’an and from other texts that use Qur’anic language including hadith, commentaries and even classical grammars. The primary textbook will be W. Thackton’s Qur’anic Arabic Textbook. This module will be taught in conjunction with co-requisite module: ARA2139 - Intermediate Arabic Language II.
