Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the most influential thinkers of the past 150 years and The Genealogy of Morals his most important work.  A polemical contribution to moral and political theory, it offers a critique of moral values and traces the historical evolution of concepts such as guilt, conscience, responsibility, law and justice.  The content of this module will provide essential background knowledge for any student who plans to pursue interests in moral theory, in political theory or in 'continental epistemology' following the work of Michel Foucault.  No prior coursework or disciplinary training is pre-requisite for taking this module.
