This module provides the fundamentals for understanding the discourses, diversity and development of NGOs. Theoretical approaches of politics, social movement studies, organizational studies and NGO studies will be adopted to explore and assess the emergence of NGO sector and its practices and operation. Case studies of NGOs promoting human rights and global justice will be adopted for examination. They represent issue areas that see diversified discourses developed in world politics, raising debates how to understanding the role of NGOs in the background of globalization and the changing forms of political activism.


Talks will be given by practitioners in the field to help you better understand the issue discussed; such as movement strategies and/or social entrepreneurship.
