A good understanding of data collection, analysis and interpretation is essential for much empirical research in political science. Moreover, quantitative methods are becoming increasingly relevant for the competitive professional world. This module will provide students who have no background in computing or statistics with a basic knowledge of a wide range of quantitative analytical techniques, including tools for data analysis and presentation, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics (Chi Square, correlation, ANOVA) and regression models (OLS and logit/probit models). Using a combination of lectures, practical demonstrations and practical assignments, the module will adopt a “hands on” approach, with particular emphasis on applied data analysis and on computational aspects of quantitative political science research.
