This module will introduce you to the core ideas, theoretical perspectives, methods of investigation and analysis that are distinctive to sociology and cognate disciplines. The central questions to be pursued are the following: What kind of knowledge of social phenomena is it possible to attain, and how far can such knowledge be considered 'scientific' or 'objective'? How have these issues been discussed by key social theorists?
