The dissertation gives you the opportunity to undertake a complete piece of independent research, from start to finish. In doing so you will be able to display a range of skills you have acquired during your undergraduate studies, from the collection, handling and analysis of empirical material, to the effective communication and presentation of ideas. You will work independently, with help and guidance from members of the academic staff, to develop a project on the topic of your choosing. In doing so you will obtain in-depth knowledge of the issues that pertain to your dissertation topic, while also developing your abilities to explore and present sociological arguments in relation to your research and/or field work. If you are a student on a Q-Step programme you will be required to undertake a dissertation using quantitative methods.
