ARA2000: Year Abroad

This module descriptor refers to the 2017/8 academic year.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to advance your knowledge of Arabic grammar and syntax as well as reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through a wide range of authentic Arabic texts, to facilitate your acquisition of a spoken dialect of Arabic, and to immerse you in first-hand experience of Arab society and culture.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. Read and demonstrate understand a range of Arabic texts and linguistic styles such as in literature, poetry, religious texts, and media
2. Communicate in a spoken Arabic dialect.
Discipline-Specific Skills3. Assimilate information about another culture and to experience at first hand the cultural and social aspects of an Arab country.
Personal and Key Skills4. develop time management skills and ability to demonstrate how to conduct independent study, as well as how to work in pairs and groups in conversation and on text-based work.
