This course is intended solely for advanced students of Persian (prerequisite: Intermediate Persian II [ARA 2151]), focusing on developing your advanced Persian language skills – spoken, listening, reading and writing. You will read and discuss selections from advanced classical Persian texts, such as Sa‘di’s Gulistan, poetry of Umar Khayyam, Rumi, Hafiz and Parvin Etesami. You will also read from selections from modern Iranian literature, poetry and media, and listen to the BBC Persian service. You will also study higher Persian grammar and advanced sentence syntactical constructions. After taking this course, the language skills acquired during your study of elementary and intermediate Persian, in respect to listening, speaking, translating and writing Persian, will have been vastly expanded.
