Jürgen Habermas is arguably the most widely recognized and influential philosopher of the last half-century. More than any other living philosopher his worked as bridged the divides between both philosophy and social science and between continental and analytic traditions. His work has been compared in scope to that of Max Weber’s and in philosophical breadth to that of Kant and Hegel. In this module you will use Habermas scholar Kenneth Baynes's recent book in the Routledge Philosophers series as a guide to a comprehensive introduction to the full scope of Habermas’s work. Baynes's book will be supplemented by selections of primary text.
