ARA1031: Elementary Turkish I

This module descriptor refers to the 2021/2 academic year.

Module Aims

The module aims to introduce different aspects of Turkish at A1 level and aims to develop all four language skills alike as well basic Turkish structures and a selection of survival and significant vocabulary. Translation exercises and study materials are regularly set and later corrected and analysed by the whole class and/or the lecturer.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. Demonstrate mastery of Turkish spelling and pronunciation, grasp of essential Turkish grammar
2. Read with a dictionary elementary texts in Turkish
3. Carry on basic conversation in elementary Turkish
4. Acquire a basic understanding of the importance of Turkish language and civilisation in the broader context of Islamic civilisation and culture
Discipline-Specific Skills5. Identify, describe and manipulate a range of linguistic forms and structures in reading, writing, and conversation
6. Assimilate basic information about another culture
Personal and Key Skills7. Develop time management skills and ability to conduct independent study
8. Be able to work in groups in conversation and text-based work
