In this module you will explore and critically evaluate current issues in the teaching and learning of mathematics in a range of contexts, for example, primary and secondary schools and further education colleges. You will review latest research findings in mathematics education, design effective learning environments, reflect on your own practice and create links between theory and practice in mathematics education. You are expected to develop your own ways of critically analysing your own practice, informed and framed by research in cognitive psychology, socio-cultural theory, and dialogic theory related to learning and teaching of mathematics. To take this module, you will usually need at least 3 months experience of teaching mathematics in a school or similar educational environment.
