I am currently Professor in the Faculty of Education, University of the Western Cape, South Africa. I was previously involved in the training of educational psychologists and counsellors at both the University of Capetown and UWC. I have had a longstanding interest in cognitive education and am a member and past President of the South African branch of the International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology. I have published extensively on various aspects of cognitive and inclusive education and produced a series of stories and curriculum materials for teaching thinking to South African children.
Key research areas include: Cognitive development and enhancement with particular reference to the role of teachers in this process; The role of schools & teachers in moral development & citizenship education; Inclusive education policy & practices in South Africa; Narrative and other qualitative research methodologies; The interaction of the personal and the professional in the lives of South African teachers.
