Research Excellence Framework

85% of our research is classified as world-leading or internationally excellent1.

There are over 90 Law Schools in the UK, and in this exercise Exeter was ranked overall 19th. It was the third most improved Law School since the Research Assessment Exercise of 2008. It doubled its world-leading performance and significantly increased its internationally excellent activity.

In terms of the impact of Exeter Law School’s research, namely the contribution it makes to society, the economy, culture, public policy and quality of life, it too was judged either world-leading or internationally excellent. Its Impact Case Studies reflect the particular strength the Law School has in Family Law and its impact on public discussion and legislative policy in that area. Read our case studies.

The Law School is building on this robust base for the REF 2020, centred on its key strengths of Family Law, Legal History, European Law, International Law and Commercial Law.
