Dr. Growns is a cognitive psychologist and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Evidence-Based Justice Lab at the University of Exeter Law School. She has a Ph.D. and Masters in Forensic Psychology from the University of New South Wales in Australia and was previously a Postdoctoral Scholar funded by the National Science Foundation at Arizona State University in the US. She is also a registered clinical psychologist in Australia.
Her research focuses on how forensic science practitioners make decisions and the cognitive mechanisms that underpin their expertise. She is a collaborating member of the Evidence-Based Forensics Initiative and the Future of Forensic Science Initiative. Her work has led to several interdisciplinary projects that have fostered a research culture between the law, cognitive and forensic sciences to begin to investigate the many questions that remain unanswered in forensic science. Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals in leading cognitive psychology or law journals, including Applied Cognitive Psychology, Psychonomic Bulletin & Review and Science & Justice.
