Gender Adviser, Relief International, Afghanistan

Please tell us how you came to work in international development.

I'm currently working in the international development sector, focusing on gender equality and good governance. It's an area I have always been interested in and something I became more interested in through studying Public International Law and Human Rights Law as part of my degree.

What is the best thing about your job?

I enjoy the freedom to try new approaches and ideas to solve complex social problems.

How do you feel your law degree helped you?

As well as the analytical skills gained through my degree, the understanding of legal and institutional processes has been important in working on good governance issues.

Do you have any advice for others looking to take a similar path?

Try to connect with people already working in the sector to hear their experiences and do some research to consider the technical and geographic areas you are interested in pursuing.
