Farm Succession & Inheritance in Irish Agriculture

Teagasc/Royal Dublin Society (RDS) Conference, RDS, Dublin, 19 May 2015.  Matt Lobley will be speaking at this Conference in Dublin on 19 May 2015

The conference will provide an overview of, and insights into, the latest research being undertaken in the area of farm succession and farm inheritance. This will be followed by an open discussion focused on key farm succession issues, challenges and opportunities. The objective of the conference is to get attendees views on practical steps and initiatives that can be undertaken and how succession and inheritance can be managed in support of the future development of Irish farming.

Matt's paper on 'Farm Succession: An International Perspective' will discuss some of the strengths of family farms, compare rates and patterns of succession in different countries and will explore why it can be so difficult to ‘hand over the reins’. He will stress the importance of succession and retirement planning for the sustainable future of the agriculture sector.
