Is bigger better in farming?

Matt Lobley will address this question to an open meeting of the Family Farmers’ Association in the House of Commons, Westminster on 18 May.

Along with Christine Tacon, Managing Director of Co-operative Farms, Matt  will be debating whether the future of the countryside would be better with large, more industrial units or with small family farms.  Would the character of Britain’s countryside be more pleasing to look at if it was occupied by smaller farms?  Do smaller farms employ more people and produce more food per hectare?  Would it be unfair to give smaller farms a little more support from the CAP?  Representatives from a broad spectrum of farming and industry will attend to discuss this potentially thorny subject.
