About the research

Professor Michael Winter, Associate Professor Matt Lobley and Dr Hannah Chiswell  have received a grant of £57,000 for “The Viability of the UK Small Farm” project. The research will identify the extent and pace of change in the number of small farms and the drivers of change in the structure of UK agriculture. It will consider whether and how the decline of small farming might impact on food production or environmental management, and the role small farms might play in responding to contemporary challenges. It will explore ways in which small farmers might improve performance and viability.
