The module aims to provide an understanding of contemporary Palestinian politics. The core focus of the module is Palestinian politics after Oslo, as well as the societal and political context, which provides the frame. The course makes use of a number of books, journal articles and think-tank publications in order to expose you to a wide variety of material. Moreover, during the seminars, you will also be tasked with researching newspaper articles in order to obtain further data, particularly on the more recent events. It is hoped that undertaking this module will enable you to gain an in-depth knowledge of the legal framework, political institutions, the workings of civil society, and state-society relations in Palestine, thereby enabling you to understand Palestinian society today. A further aim of the course is to develop your skills as academics and independent researchers, thereby equipping you for the future, regardless of whether you aspire to a career in academe.
