How do I make the transition to becoming an independent Arabic learner and scholar of Southwest Asian and North African affairs? How do I activate my Arabic learning and start the process of applying it within my scholarly field? How, meanwhile, do I start to sharpen my theoretical focus within the field of politics and/or international relations with respect to the region? In this module, we will start to build the links between your incipient Arabic learning and your subject specialism through reading and translation activities, as well as preparing you for independent research and investigation by embarking you upon an independent reading programme addressing a topic outside the compulsory or optional modules on offer. The module will culminate in an Arabic translation portfolio and an extended subject-focused essay.
