This module examines the legal framework regulating employment in global labour markets. You will study ILO conventions, EU directives, and transnational treaties concerning jobs and employment. You will debate policy issues such as: is employment law compatible with the global nature of modern workplaces? Would tailored contracts of employment work better than generalized minimum labour standards? How should we evaluate the impact of new economic models such as the gig or ‘on demand’ economy, and new technologies including artificial intelligence? You will formulate proposals for law to respond adequately to the challenges faced by employers and workers. There is no pre-requisite in order to take this course.
