How best can we characterise political engagement in an age of political disaffection or so-called ‘anti-politics’ and ‘populism’?? Even in this age, we find that people do continue to participate, sometimes in novel ways. We explore a multi-disciplinary literature which explains why  people engage in civic behaviour that contributes to the collective public good. We consider what we can learn from research about how best to motivate people to engage in civic behaviour. These are some of the topics and questions you will consider in this unique module which combines theory and practice to understand the changing nature of contemporary civic and political engagement, and explores strategies and policy innovations to encourage this.  The module provides you with an opportunity to work with an external organisation to produce a consultancy report, and includes, where possible, occasional talks from guest speakers. There are no prerequisites for this module and it is likely to be of interest to students taking inter-disciplinary pathways.
