LAW3156F: Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Law

Module Aims

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of some aspects of the legal structures and the regulation of immigration control, nationality law and asylum in the UK. The module will place legal controls in their historical, social, and political context. It, will require you to demonstrate in-depth understanding of some key legal principles and enable you to analyse them within an inter-relating multi-level structure of governance and to consider how these principle reflect the inter-relationship of law and social and political pressures.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of aspects of the main sources, history and current framework of immigration, nationality and asylum law in the UK and of a range of major concepts, values and principles relevant to its application;
2. Demonstrate critical awareness of a range of social and contextual implications of the area of immigration, nationality and asylum law;
Discipline-Specific Skills3. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of some relevant legal concepts and their contextual/social/political implications
4. Identify, explain and apply some relevant rules and theories.

6. Work independently within a limited time frame to complete a sustained piece of academic writing of the necessary quality
