How best can we characterise political engagement in a time of so-called ‘anti-politics’? Why do people engage in civic behaviour that contributes to the collective public good? What can we learn from research about how best to motivate people to engage in civic behaviour? These are some of the questions you will consider in this unique module which combines theory and practice to understand the changing nature of contemporary civic and political engagement, and explores strategies and policy innovations to encourage this.  The module provides an opportunity to work with an external organisation to produce a consultancy report, includes a variety of guest speakers, and in previous years has led to opportunities for Summer research placements with public authorities. There are no prerequisites for this module and it is likely to be of interest to students taking inter-disciplinary pathways.
