Syllabus Plan

  • What is nonviolence? From conceptual monolith to dimensions (defining peace, violence, and nonviolence)
  • Nonviolence: Civil Disobedience, Passive Resistance, and No Resistance
  • Nonviolence and Power: Personal or People Power?
  • Is civil disobedience legitimate?
  • Overthrowing Dictators with Nonviolence
  • Nonviolence as Tool to ‘Democratize Democracy’
  • Nonviolence in the institutions: political parties and policy change
  • Nonviolence as defence and Anti-Terrorism
  • Can nonviolence work in global politics? Evidence from the European Union (Is the EU a credible normative power committed to nonviolence? From the Ventotene Manifesto to the EP resolution on human rights)
