EDUM052: Secondary Professional Learning

This module descriptor refers to the 2021/2 academic year.

Module Aims

The aim of the module is to enable students to provide reflection on their professional development and demonstrate evidence of achievement of the range of essential knowledge, skills and experience listed in the Teachers’ Standards required by the NCTL for QTS. On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. recognise pupils’ learning needs and interpret these learning needs in order to plan, teach, assess and evaluate lessons and schemes of work;
2. demonstrate confident academic and pedagogic subject knowledge to teach in a Secondary school;
3. demonstrate secure understanding of the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and assessment regulations for a specialist subject at Secondary level;
Discipline-Specific Skills4. critically evaluate personal professional learning;
5. plan future professional development needs;
Personal and Key Skills6. manage your own learning development;
7. learn effectively and be aware of your own learning strategies;
8. work productively in different kinds of teams (formal, informal, project based, etc); and

Module Content

Syllabus Plan

This module relates directly to your professional development through 36 weeks of the programme, including 24 weeks on placements in school. The co-required modules provide taught sessions and tutorials based at the university to support your learning and a programme of seminars in school. The evidence presented in the IDP will be compiled during the taught university course and the 24 weeks of school-based work experience in two different secondary schools.
