ARA1032: Elementary Turkish II

This module descriptor refers to the 2021/2 academic year.

Module Aims

This module aims to develop your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Turkish, continuing Elementary Turkish (term 1). By the end of the module the students should have sufficient knowledge of Turkish to read and write simple compositions and to conduct everyday conversation such as may be necessary for field-work in Turkey.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills	1. demonstrate mastery of the Turkish alphabet and pronunciation; 2. have a grasp of essential Turkish grammar; 3. read elementary texts in Turkish with or without a dictionary and write basic descriptive texts; 4. carry on basic conversation in elementary Turkish; 5. acquire a basic understanding of the importance of Turkish language and civilisation in the broader context of Islamic civilisation and culture;
Discipline-Specific Skills	6. identify, describe and manipulate a range of linguistic forms and structures in reading, writing, and conversation; 7. assimilate basic information about another culture;
Personal and Key Skills	8. develop time management skills; 9. conduct independent study, as well as to work in groups in conversation and text-based work; 10. demonstrate confidence in the use of a foreign language

Formative Assessment

A formative assessment is designed to give you feedback on your understanding of the module content but it will not count towards your mark for the module.

Summative Assessment

Re-assessment

Re-assessment takes place when the summative assessment has not been completed by the original deadline, and the student has been allowed to refer or defer it to a later date (this only happens following certain criteria and is always subject to exam board approval). For obvious reasons, re-assessments cannot be the same as the original assessment and so these alternatives are set. In cases where the form of assessment is the same, the content will nevertheless be different.
