Syllabus Plan
Whilst the module’s precise content may vary from year to year, it is envisaged that the syllabus will cover topics related to advanced Turkish language, including grammar, writing, reading, speaking, and translating.
Teaching varies between lectures and commentary on the main textbook, readings, translation, dictation from and discussion of Turkish texts. We do translation exercises collectively; regular vocabulary reviews; reading of poetic and prose texts. Students give presentations on grammatical issues or texts which they have studied or read independently. Students will study different types of texts, historical, literary, current affairs; will learn how to matter different styles of expression oral and written. Teaching will also include Turkish media (TV broadcasts, news, interview, documentaries, as well as music and songs).

A formative assessment is designed to give you feedback on your understanding of the module content but it will not count towards your mark for the module.
Form of assessment | Size of the assessment (eg length / duration) | ILOs assessed | Feedback method |
---|---|---|---|
Writing and reading assignments | Weekly | 1, 2, 3, 4 | Written and Verbal |

Re-assessment
Re-assessment takes place when the summative assessment has not been completed by the original deadline, and the student has been allowed to refer or defer it to a later date (this only happens following certain criteria and is always subject to exam board approval). For obvious reasons, re-assessments cannot be the same as the original assessment and so these alternatives are set. In cases where the form of assessment is the same, the content will nevertheless be different.
Original form of assessment | Form of re-assessment | ILOs re-assessed | Timescale for re-assessment |
---|---|---|---|
Continuous assessment | Written examination (1.5-hours; 30%) | 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 | January examination period |
Written examination (at end of term 1) | Written examination (2 hours; 50%) | 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 | January examination period |
Oral examination (at end of term 1) | Oral examination (20 minutes; 20%) | 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 | January examination period |
