LAW3051: French Law of Contract

This module descriptor refers to the 2021/2 academic year.

Module Aims

The French Contract Law module constitutes the third part of the teaching of the LLB inEng. Law and French Law/Master 1 (Maîtrise) dedicated to French Law. It is taught entirely in French and reflects the way law is taught in France. This French Private Law module is designed to provide you with a sound knowledge of the French Law of Contract. You are expected to acquire a confident command of the French Law of Contract, develop the ability to express yourselves on sophisticated French legal issues, analyse them critically and apply the law with insight. An important part of the course is dedicated to the French legal methodology in order to equip you for the preparation of a French Master 1 in Law during your year abroad.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:

2. identify and critically discuss sophisticated legal issues both in theoretical and in practical contexts.

4. make an informed and reasoned judgement about the merits and relevance of alternative arguments.
Personal and Key Skills5. demonstrate effective and accurate written communication skills in French in a manner appropriate to the discipline and according to the French legal methodology;
6. identify, retrieve and use efficiently a range of French legal resources.

Re-assessment

Re-assessment takes place when the summative assessment has not been completed by the original deadline, and the student has been allowed to refer or defer it to a later date (this only happens following certain criteria and is always subject to exam board approval). For obvious reasons, re-assessments cannot be the same as the original assessment and so these alternatives are set. In cases where the form of assessment is the same, the content will nevertheless be different.
