Dr Kanwal Hameed

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Kanwal Hameed is an inter-disciplinary historian with a background in Middle East Studies, and was previously a Visiting Post-doctoral Fellow at the Orient Institut Beirut, Lebanon. She received her PhD from the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS) at the University of Exeter. Her work focusses on mid-20th century national, anti-colonial and anti-imperial leftist movements, with a particular interest in an intergenerational Gulf radical tradition - read within and through its regional and global entanglements.

Biography

Kanwal is currently a researcher with the Mapping Connections project at the Insitute of Arab and Islamic Studies. Prior to this she was a Visiting Post-doctoral Fellow at the Orient Institut Beirut (OIB), Lebanon. She has previously worked as a researcher on the 'Sustaining Kuwait in Unsustainable Times' project at the Middle East Centre, London School of Economics (LSE), and as a post-graduate teaching assistant and course co-convener in Gender Studies and Politics at IAIS.
