My research interests include Arabic and Arab Anglophone writing, comparative literature and translation studies. I wrote my PhD thesis at the School of Oriental and African Studies (London, 2002-2006) before taking up a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship (also at SOAS, 2007-2010). I joined the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies in September 2010, where I teach Arabic literature, translation and literary theory am working on various projects, including a book-length study of religion and the novel. I also translate Arabic fiction and have published works by a number of important Arab authors.
