Biography

I hold BSc in Biology, MSc in Environmental Sciences and MSc in Biology Education. I have a PhD in Biology (2011) and a PhD in Philosophy (2020); both Ege University, İzmir, Turkey. During my Biology PhD, I visited Plant Energy Biology Lab, University of Sydney, Australia (2008-2009) and Plant Physiology Lab, Sabancı University, Turkey (2009-2011). I did three years post-doc research in Plant Physiology Lab. of Sabancı University (2013-2016); I have published research papers in plant science from my first PhD and post-doc. I received a European Philosophy of Science Association Fellowship for visiting Egenis, Exeter, for one month (2016). Later, I did two years post-doc in Humanities and Social Sciences Department of İstanbul Technical University, Turkey (2017-2019). In 2018, I was a Writing-up fellow for six months at the Konrad Lorenz Institute, Klosterneuburg, Austria.

I  worked as an actor in university theatre groups (2000-2003) and professionally (2003-2006). In addition, I did occasional dubbing for television cartoons (2002-2004). Note: ‘Özlem Yılmaz’ is a very common name in Turkey. There is a famous actor with the same name. She is not me!:) Also, there are several Özlem Yılmazs in biology too.
