Austrian Ambassador highlights importance of UK EU membership at visit to University of Exeter

Austrian Ambassador Dr Martin Eichtinger spoke about the challenges of mass migration and the forthcoming UK EU referendum during a visit to the University of Exeter.

Dr Eichtinger was invited to visit the University’s Streatham campus by student Maria Gomez de Olea on behalf of the Student Diplomatic Hub.

The Ambassador met students and academics and spoke about the current European migration crisis and Austria’s role in looking after the thousands of refugees who have arrived in that country. Dr Eichtinger also discussed the state of the EU-Russian relations and the forthcoming referendum on the EU in the United Kingdom. He told students that the UK played an important role in the EU.

MikeShore-Nye, Registrar and Secretary of the University of Exeter, said: “It was a privilege to welcome Dr Eichtinger to campus and discuss the valuable research links and the significant engagement the University enjoys with Austrian universities.   Not only were we able to show him the impact being in the European Union has on the research carried out here, but it was also valuable to hear how Austria is dealing with the huge challenges currently caused by migration.”
