International law student secures internship in Taiwanese law firm

I was involved with this year’s internship at Lee & Li Attorneys at Law in Taipei, Taiwan. I was placed in the Corporate and Investments department, and undertook an internship placement from July until mid-August.

I was provided the opportunity to work on projects from a wide variety of departments, ranging from tax, corporate, to intellectual property. The projects were a range of tasks from drafting shareholder agreements, to researching tax law in order to advise a client. I definitely wasn’t limited to solely the Corporates & Investments department, and had the freedom to ask Partners and lawyers from different areas for any work.  The opportunity to have your work directly reviewed by Partners within the firm is not only unheard of at this level, it compels you to strive to do your very best. It definitely was an insight towards what life is like in a law firm, on an international scale.

The staff at the firm were extremely friendly and helpful. While my knowledge of mandarin is limited, I was provided with a vast amount of challenging English work, which really tested my legal knowledge, research abilities and time management skills. There were many different opportunities, outings as well as firm lunches, to get to know the other interns and various staff at the firm. I truly loved my time at Lee & Li, and would recommend it for anyone looking for a unique and challenging opportunity this summer!
